On February 17, 2023, over 150 participants took part in an emergency preparedness training exercise at Midland County ESA which focused on responding to active assailant incidents. The exercise, which included a simulation of multiple casualties, building evacuation, and reunification, aimed to enhance the response of all agencies involved in emergency situations of this nature, including law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire departments, central dispatch, and school officials. The school resource officers, who play a vital role in maintaining the safety and security in our schools, provided excellent training and guidance throughout the exercise.
The exercise provided a valuable training opportunity to the newly developed Midland County Rescue Task Force, an integrated response team trained to respond to active assailant and hostile events. The team's primary objective is to provide timely and efficient access and treatment to injured individuals, minimizing the loss of life.
