MIDLAND, MI – Midland County Educational Service Agency welcomed the public to the addition of its Sugnet School with a ribbon cutting ceremony and tour of the new facility on Monday, January 13, 2025. The school located at 3917 Jefferson Avenue in Midland has been a staple of the Midland community as it derives from a one-room schoolhouse built in 1886.
The addition to the school is a part of a $17 million bond project that was approved by Midland County voters in August 2022. The new, state-of-the art facility represents a significant commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for students and fostering a supportive environment that reinforces their importance in the community. It features modern classrooms, collaborative learning spaces, and innovative resources designed to empower students in their educational journeys.
“We believe that every student deserves a space that reflects their value and potential,” said MCESA Superintendent John M. Searles. “This new wing is not just a building; it’s a symbol of our community’s dedication to investing in the future of all students.”
The addition is the first of four phases to be completed in the construction project at the Sugnet School, which houses MCESA’s SK-12 and Post Secondary programs as well as professional staff and administration. Remaining renovations of the building will continue through 2026.
MCESA is grateful for the unwavering support from community members, local businesses and non-profit organizations, students and staff members that made this dream a reality. Photos from the ribbon cutting are available courtesy of the Midland Business Alliance.
Midland County Educational Service Agency is one of 56 Michigan intermediate school districts that serve the educational needs of students, parents, and staff in local schools. MCESA’s mission is to provide leadership, deliver services and leverage resources to improve the education of students in collaboration with constituent districts, schools, and the community at large.
