Nothing says fall like a trip to Johnson's Pumpkin Farm! Ms. Justina and Ms. Kaylene from Longview Early Childhood Center were able to take their first field trip there this week. Looks like everyone had a great time!

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month. The image below highlights the MCESA TRAILS students working in the community with our business partners to enhance their employability skills as well as the soft skills of asking for help, communicating with their co-workers and job coaches. Thank you to our local business partners this year for providing these opportunities for growth! #mcesabettertogether

We were able to witness Ms. Sandy in her element this morning during the cooking class for the TRAILS program at Sugnet. She has been making apple sauce and other delicious apple treats for fall! #mcesabettertogether

In the words of Buddy the Elf: "I just like to smile. Smiling's my favorite!" Happy World Smile Day from a few of the smiling faces at MCESA!

It's one of our favorite times of year at the Sugnet Building.

The MCESA administrative team is thankful for our amazing students who have stopped by the offices this week to help us decorate and get into the Halloween spirit. #mcesabettertogether

Last week, Director of Early Childhood & Family Services, Kim Clark, sent us these photos from the Longview Early Childhood Center rubber mulch project. She shared that the Longview building partners, NEMSCA Head Start and Kinder Kare GSRP helped cover the cost of the mulch, noting that 400, 40-pound bags of rubber mulch were placed under the bay of swings. The small (but mighty!) team of Mark Eastman, Kim Clark, and two volunteers from the Kiwassee Kiwanis Club, along with some students helped to lay all of the mulch. A true team effort!

October is Principals Month! Please take a moment to celebrate and thank a principal this month.

As a reminder, Monday, Sept. 26 is a professional development day for staff at MCESA. There will be no school for MCESA students that day.

Fall is here, and we are ready for it at the Sugnet School! Thanks to MCESA Teacher, Caroline Davis, for making our hallway so fun and spirited. #mcesabettertogether

It definitely feels like the first day of fall in Michigan this morning! We are starting to notice some leaves already changing on the beautiful maple tree outside of the Sugnet building. Happy fall!

Transition Coordinator, Jennie Coston, shared that she has always heard about how successful the MCESA Midland High popcorn stand/delivery is, and she finally got to witness it in action last Friday! She noted that MCESA teacher, Sarah Tebo, said that students are able to partner with their peers when selling, too. Popcorn Fridays for the win!

We are enjoying these wholesome photos that MCESA Early Childhood Special Education Teacher, Courtney Battaglia, shared with us from last week. #mcesabettertogether #buildinghope #buildingfutures

This great team photo was shared by MCESA Teacher, Rod Dishaw, with this message: "At MCESA we love our paraprofessionals! Today we celebrated our room “mother” Ms. Vicky’s birthday. Happy birthday, Vicky, and thanks for all you do for the kids at Midland County ESA!" Looks like a fun team! #mcesabettertogether

Yesterday, MCESA students and staff had a great time participating in the third annual Victory Day celebration hosted by Midland High School. A very big "thank you" goes out to Midland High for organizing this spectacular event that celebrates inclusion in sports! #mcesabettertogether

MCESA students at Jefferson Middle School had a fun time making salsa during inclusion class last Friday. Thanks to teacher, Kat Kruskamp, for sharing! #mcesabettertogether #buildinghope #buildingfutures

MCESA Teacher, Rod Dishaw, gave us a glimpse into the classroom today with this note: "Students in our Jefferson classroom have been taking care of a new pet! The African cichlid is named Temple, after the famous Temple Grandin, who is a vocal and influential proponent of ethical and humane treatment of animals. Grandin is also a world recognized advocate for those living with autism, including writing numerous articles and books on the topic. Welcome to middle school, Temple!"
